The Castle/Black
Rock project is located in Esmeralda County, Nevada,
off the flank of the Monte Cristo Mountain Range
in the southwest part of the Big Smokey Valley
(see Figure 9). The project straddles U.S.
highway 95/6, approximately 20 miles west of Tonopah,
Nevada. Elevation at the project is approximately
4,700 feet. Vegetation consists primarily
of sagebrush. The climate is characterized
as an arid continental type, with an average annual
precipitation of 6 inches. The average annual
temperature is approximately 51°F, ranging
from 30°F in January to 75°F in August.
