The Hog Ranch project
is located in northern Washoe County, Nevada,
approximately 230 kilometres north of Reno. Access
to the property is 2 miles off of Nevada state
highway 477, midway between Gerlach, Nevada and
Susanville, California. Elevations at the
project range approximately from 6,250 to 6,750
feet. Vegetation is primarily mountain sagebrush
and big sagebrush. Northern Nevada is located
in the “rain shadow” of the nearby
Sierra Nevada Mountains. As moist air masses
move inland from the Pacific Coast and rise over
these mountains, much of the available moisture
is precipitated, resulting in a dry climate on
the leeward side. The climate is characterized
as an arid continental type, with annual precipitation
generally from 6 to12 inches. The majority
of the precipitation falls during the winter months.
The average summer temperature is approximately
65°F with large daily variability. The
average winter temperature is approximately 30°F.
